Naby Keita took to social media to refute Werder Bremen's claims that he refused to board team bus for Bundesliga clash with Bayer Leverkusen.
WHAT HAPPENED?
In a campaign marred by several injuries, Keita has been able to make only five appearances for Bremen in his debut season, since making a summer move from Liverpool as a free agent. To add to his problems, Clemens Fritz, the sporting director of Werder Bremen, claimed that the midfielder opted not to board the team bus after learning that he would not be in the starting lineup during last weekend's clash against German champions Bayer Leverkusen.
WHAT DID FRITZ SAY?
After the 5-0 defeat at Bay Arena, Fritz revealed: "After Naby found out yesterday that he would not be playing from the start, he decided not to get on the bus but to go home. We will talk to him and his agent tomorrow about the consequences and how to proceed."
HOW DID KEITA RESPOND?
Refuting these claims, Keita wrote in his Instagram story: "I have always tried to help the club and the great supporters, especially during this time of poor results. Since the start of my career, I have never had problems with my discipline and have always shown an exemplary attitude. I will not accept any person trying to tarnish my image.
"To the supporters, I would like you to know that in every training session, I fight so that I can make you happy every weekend. Training, and giving everything, these are the limits of my power. To my teammates, good luck for our match. Go Werder!"
DID YOU KNOW?
Despite his promising start at Liverpool, where he joined from RB Leipzig in a £59 million deal, Keita failed to meet expectations during his five-year spell at the club. The change in pasture has not helped him regain his form and the latest accusations only add to a troubled life in Germany for the Guinea international.
WHAT NEXT FOR KEITA?
It seems that the club will take disciplinary action against Keita if he fails to prove himself innocent. Bremen's head coach, Ole Werner, issued a warning and said: "It annoys me and it will have consequences. I haven't spoken to him yet, but that will follow in the next few days."
Bremen will finish off the Bundesliga campaign with their two remaining matches against VfB Stuttgart and Augsburg on April 21 and 27, respectively.
