The Stellies have made a decision regarding the Bafana Bafana midfielder who is on the radar of the PSL champions.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Stellenbosch have made a decision regarding midfielder Jayden Adams following interest from Mamelodi Sundowns, the club's CEO Rob Benadie revealed.
Reports emerged that the young star has already agreed to join the Brazilians for the 2024/25 PSL campaign following his impressive display for The Maroons this season.
Amid the interest, coach Steve Barker recently insisted that the club is not ready to lose their trusted midfield maestro.
Benadie has now confirmed that the Rhulani Mokwena-led side approached Stellies for the player's services.
WHAT WAS SAID
''The truth is Mamelodi Sundowns made an enquiry in the January window, and we informed them that he is not available for sale,'' Benadie told SABC Sport.
''No further discussions have taken place at all. So yes they are interested in the player. But no offer has been tabled and certainly no deal.''
THE BIGGER PICTURE
The Western Cape-based club is one of the teams that usually sell their best players, having sold Junior Mendieta to Masandawana, and recently Sibongisile Mthethwa to Kaizer Chiefs, just to mention a few.
Stellenbosch would not want to lose Adams as there is a huge possibility of playing the Caf Champions League or the Caf Confederation Cup next season.
However, it remains to be seen if Stellies will hold on should Downs make an enticing offer in the upcoming transfer window.
WHAT'S NEXT FOR FOR ADAMS?
With the possibility of the Cape Winelands side qualifying for continental football, it might be difficult for the player to leave Barker's side.
With coach Hugo Broos anticipated to pick his squad for the upcoming Fifa World Cup qualifiers games, Adams will be hoping to get a nod again.
