Arsenal set an English football record in their 5-0 mauling of Chelsea on Tuesday.

Leandro Trossard opened the scoring for Arsenal before Kai Havertz and Ben White each netted a brace in a rampant second half at the Emirates.

The emphatic victory saw Arsenal become the first team in top-flight history to win three London derby matches by five or more goals in a single season, having also defeated Crystal Palace 5-0 in January and demolished West Ham 6-0 the following month.

For Chelsea, meanwhile, the chastening defeat was their heaviest in a London derby since 1986.

After the game, Mikel Arteta was full of praise for his side’s performance but stressed he had already turned his attention to Sunday’s North London derby against Tottenham.

Arteta told TNT Sports: "I'm happy with the win and the amount of chances and goals we scored. Also, the clean sheet shows the consistency of this team.

"We had to be more disciplined in the second half to do the right things and we created many chances and we defended the box so much better.

"I congratulated the players for making our supporters happy in a big London derby and it was a joy to watch them play. It's onto Spurs now.

"They know what we are playing for. They are so excited and they are at it. Even the players that haven't played much have been outstanding and that holds the team together.

"My job is to keep challenging and be demanding of them but to also make them believe they can do it because that is a very important thing."

The victory saw Mikel Arteta’s men move three points clear at the Premier League summit over second-placed Liverpool and four-points better off than Manchester City in third.

Of course, while Arsenal have regained momentum in their title bid, Liverpool can go level on points at the top with a win over Everton on Wednesday, while City play the first of their two games in hand away to Brighton on Thursday.
