West Ham manager David Moyes has plenty of work to do this summer, and one specific transfer target of his really could help take us to the next level.

The Hammers have a really unbalanced squad right now. We are in desperate need of a new striker, a prolific centre-forward and more competition for places on both wings.

However, it could be argued that the most important additions to the current squad are brand new full-backs.

The signing of a new right-back this summer should feature right at the very top of Moyes’s wish-list.

Southampton ace Kyle-Walker-Peters is someone who Moyes apparently wants to bring to the London Stadium.

Walker-Peters has been in fine form for Southampton this season, and has played a key role in their rise to fourth spot in the Championship table.

Whether Southampton earn promotion to the Premier League this season, or remain in the Championship remains to be seen.

However, the 27-year-old right-back has made it very clear that he wants to play alongside one West Ham player next term…

Flynn Downes has spent this season on loan with the Saints, and the 25-year-old Hammer has really impressed at St Mary’s.

Walker-Peters shared how he hopes to be playing alongside Downes next season, when speaking to the Daily Echo:

“He was there and he’s done it again for the team. He felt a bit disappointed with their second goal. So he’s probably given it his all there and thankfully he’s got the winner for us. He’s shown how much of a top player he is. He’s still young and whatever happens, I’d love to play with him next season. But that’s out of my hands. It’s a really key position, especially in our team. The amount of demand on the number six on and off the ball is tough. He’s been excellent this season, so we’ll see what happens.”

Dele Alli raved about Walker-Peters when they were both at Tottenham, and labelled him as a ‘fantastic player’ (Sky Sports), and he’s got even better since then as well!

The 27-year-old possesses absolutely blistering pace, is a fine tackler and offers a real threat going forward as well.

In 38 Championship appearances for Southampton this season, Walker-Peters has averaged 1.6 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 1.2 clearances per game. He’s also bagged three goals and two assists (Who Scored).

He is a modern full-back in every sense, and would elevate us to a whole new level entirely if we manage to sign him this month.

Southampton allegedly want around £20 million for the jet-heeled full-back (The Sun). That would represent fantastic value for West Ham.

However, the way that the alleged David Moyes target was talking suggests that he wants to play with Downes at Southampton, rather than the London Stadium.
