Jürgen Klopp may be focused on navigating his final two games as Liverpool manager but he made sure to pay a heartwarming tribute to his former club Borussia Dortmund after their European heroics — while also ruling out being a pundit for the showpiece final.

The Reds boss is now in the twilight period of his tenure as Reds boss, with only two games left of a reign that saw him etch his name into Anfield folklore. However, it is not just on Merseyside that the popular coach is revered, having also brought landmark success to Dortmund during a successful seven years in charge at Signal Iduna Park.

Having led the German giants to their most recent Champions League final, he will know just how much their upcoming appearance in the European showpiece will mean to the club's fanbase. Having won two domestic league titles with Dortmund, their loss under Klopp in the final versus rivals Bayern Munich in 2013 represents one that got away for coach and club alike.

With BVB having secured its place in the Wembley Stadium for June 1 following a dramatic win over two legs in the semi-final versus Paris Saint-Germain this week, the opportunity now knocks for the club to finally put that ghost to bed in London. Demonstrating his enduring bond with the club, Klopp was delighted to see his former employers advance to the final.

Speaking at a press conference prior to Liverpool's trip to face Aston Villa in their penultimate game of the 2023-24 season, the head coach was beaming with pride at his old club's historic result. Waxing lyrical, he confirmed that he will also be watching the game versus Real Madrid as a Dortmund 'supporter' rather than as a pundit.

"Supporter. Not pundit. Are you crazy?" he responded when asked by a reporter if he might be on TV for the match. "A big, big achievement."

After being questioned about the guise he plans to watch the game in, he also recalled watching the game as the sheer magnitude of the team's achievement was not lost on him. He confirmed: "I am really happy about that, I could watch and it was really nice to see. A nice story."

As for the matters at hand in his penultimate game as Liverpool coach, he was also aware that he will have to avoid a suspension in order to appear on the touchline for his last outing as boss. Laughing about the situation facing him, he quipped: "I've known for a long time.

"I only got two yellow cards! I've got calmer over the years. I don't need to be on the touchline but it would be cool, he admitted as he vowed to do his best to stay on the right side of the officials during the clash. "I will try absolutely everything to be involved in conversations!"

To add to the nostalgic mood at the press conference, Klopp also gave his own thoughts on the event in Liverpool which will be hosted in his honor later this year. Speaking proudly about the upcoming show at the M&S Bank Arena, he said: "I had a lot of evenings with Jürgen Klopp. It's neither my idea nor am I involved in the organization.

"I have no clue what happens that night. I said whatever people ask me to do that in that perspective, I will do. I make it happen. No problem to come a week after the season is over. If the people want that, I will be here. It will be good, I hope so. No pressure on the people organizing it."
