Liverpool blew away the negativity of the past few weeks by beating Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

A few months ago, many would have been looking at this fixture for Jurgen Klopp as a banana skin in the Premier League title race.

But Liverpool have fallen so far behind now – five points behind leaders Arsenal and they have a better goal difference – that hardly anything was riding on the game at Anfield.

There was probably more talk of Tottenham still trying to catch fourth-placed Aston Villa in the table after they were beaten 1-0 by Brighton.

But the Reds ensured that result didn’t do Unai Emery’s side any damage because they put four goals past the London club.

Two goals in each half, and despite some late punches from Ange Postecoglou’s men, overall, it was a comfortable three points.

From Mohamed Salah to Harvey Elliott, they are all getting lauded and applauded for their performance.

But one man, who didn’t score or assist, but was singled out by Jermain Defoe was Alexis Mac Allister, as he told Premier League Productions (05/05/24 at 17:25 pm)

The former striker pointed out the £35 million star’s ‘unbelievable’ pass that led to Andy Robertson’s goal.

“We spoke about the fullbacks being out of position and Liverpool exploiting those spaces,” said Defoe.

“This ball from Mac Allister (in the build-up to Robertson’s goal) is unbelievable. Trent just stands it up to the back post and Andy Robertson then gets the rebound. But this pass from Mac Allister to Trent – Tottenham have had more of the ball, but they aren’t doing much with it.”

These are now set to be the final few weeks of Klopp’s reign as Liverpool manager.

Arne Slot is bracing himself to replace the Anfield titan in the dugout, but before anything happens, the team have two more games to deal with.

Next Monday night, Liverpool travel to the Midlands to take on Unai Emery’s Aston Villa in what will be Klopp’s final away game.

Before the German’s final bow for the visit of Wolves at Anfield.

The Liverpool players will be hoping and praying to end on a high because, after failing to add to their League Cup, it’s the least they can do.
