Rio Ferdinand answers if he thinks Mauricio Pochettino should be sacked after Chelsea’s 5-0 loss to Arsenal

Pundit Rio Ferdinand has now shared what he thinks Chelsea should do with manager Mauricio Pochettino right now.

The former Manchester United defender was speaking to TNT Sports about what he thinks the future should look like after the Blues were beaten by Arsenal.

Chelsea were hammered 5-0 at the Emirates, with the capitulation really coming into effect in the second half.

Chelsea beaten 5-0 by Arsenal

The Blues were missing Cole Palmer from their squad entirely for the London derby, with his impact on the side arguably not being clearer seen than the first time he has been missing in quite a while.

Pressure is almost certainly rising on Pochettino though, with those higher up certainly noticing both the performance and result that they put in across the capital.

Ferdinand backs Chelsea to keep Mauricio Pochettino

Ferdinand has now had his say on the situation, stating that he believes the club need to stick with the Argentine despite the rough result.

He said: “What I would say is that if you have spent a billion pounds on potential then you can’t sack the manager. I’m really interested to see how this summer goes in terms of the management situation.”

The result follows what was a very narrowly fought FA Cup semi-final tie, were very little blame could be put at Pochettino’s door off the back of a defeat to Manchester City.

However, the change of three out of the four defenders who started that game and marshalled the attack pretty well left a number of supporters confused, as well as how he dealt with replacing Palmer.

Carney Chukwuemeka will likely have been believing he was in a good place to start tonight in the summer signing’s absence, however he was again overlooked by the boss.

Another player who may have been hoping it was his time to win supporters around was Raheem Sterling, however he was only brought on off the bench when it was too late.

Nevertheless, the scoreline is an embarrasing one for Pochettino, and one that can’t be overlooked and brushed under the carpet.
