Inter Miami have reportedly dropped interest in signing a record-breaking striker due to his supposed relationship with Lionel Messi.

The Herons have established themselves in the last ten months as the go-to MLS club for superstar players, with Messi’s arrival last summer followed by Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Luis Suarez.

With USMNT star Julian Gressel following suit this winter, Inter Miami’s pull is arguably one of the biggest in world soccer, with Sergio Ramos and Neymar just two big-name players who have been linked with the Florida franchise in recent weeks.

Yet there is now one superstar in soccer who seemingly won’t be heading to Inter Miami.

Inter Miami abandon plan to sign Robert Lewandowski due to Lionel Messi

According to El Nacional, Inter Miami have dropped their interest in signing FC Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski, with the report stating that the decision has been made due to Messi’s lack of relationship with the attacker.

A record-breaking attacker that is considered by many as one of the best in the 21st century, the 35-year-old forward is expected to be offloaded by Barcelona this summer due to Lewandowski’s age and wages.

And MLS could be a destination for the Polish international, with Inter Miami cited as the most likely destination for Lewandowski due to their superstar pull and growing reputation across the game.

However, with Messi and Lewandowski seemingly having a fractious relationship, any hint of a move for the former Bayern Munich star is now off, with Inter Miami likely to look elsewhere for their next marquee signing.

Lewandowski signing would have made zero sense with Luis Suarez

There’s no doubt that Lewandowski would be an outstanding signing for most MLS clubs, but for Inter Miami, the Polish international would have made little sense with Luis Suarez currently at the club.

The 37-year-old striker has been sensational since making the move from Gremio to the United States, with Suarez reconnecting with the likes of Messi and Busquets in spectacular fashion.

And if Inter Miami were to move for Lewandowski this summer, the entire squad structure of the Herons would have been too unbalanced for the project to work, even if Messi was on board with the signing.
