West Ham have been dealt yet another big injury blow ahead of the Bayer Leverkusen clash on Thursday night.
Bayer Leverkusen hold a two-goal lead after the first-leg Europa League quarter-final clash with West Ham.
Hammers boss David Moyes had to make do without the injured Jarrod Bowen, Alphonse Areola and Kalvin Phillips for the first-leg at the BayArena, whilst Edson Alvarez missed out through suspension.
Leverkusen have been in tremendous form this season and are currently in the midst of a 43-game unbeaten run in all competitions.
They were crowned the Bundesliga champions on Sunday, and that itself highlights the size of the task that awaits us on Thursday night.
Still, everything is far from rosy at the London Stadium right now…
Hopefully we’ll have Bowen back against the German side, and as things stand that is still a possibility.
However, Moyes will be unable to call upon suspended duo Lucas Paqueta and Emerson Palmieri.
And now, there is another big blow for the Hammers fans to digest.
According to a report from talkSPORT, one of our key players is set to miss the game against Leverkusen.
Konstantinos Mavropanos was forced off the pitch through injury during our defeat to Fulham at the London Stadium on Sunday.
And it now seems like the Greece international will not be fit to face Bayer Leverkusen this week. That really would be a big blow.
Despite his poor performance against Fulham, Mavropanos has been one of our best and most consistent performers over the past few months.
Since the turn of the year, the former Stuttgart man has been a real tower of strength for us in the centre of defence.
Without him, Moyes will be forced to turn to the hapless Nayef Aguerd. It could be a long old night for West Ham against Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday, after the latest injury blow.
