Wrexham have completed back to back promotions and there will be some fans who have a third promotion in a row in mind.

Saturday’s 6-0 win over Forest Green Rovers sent Wrexham up, sparking a second promotion party inside a year.

League One was merely a pipe dream for Wrexham fans even five years ago but the entire feeling around the club has changed.

Yes, the backing of Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds has helped massively but Wrexham have been getting key decisions right both on and off the field.

A third promotion in a row is a huge ask as the jump from League Two to League One is likely to be bigger than the one from National League to League Two.

The initial aim has to be for Wrexham to consolidate and become a settled League One side before trying to kick on again; anything beyond that will be a bonus.

There are examples of clubs rapidly going through the leagues though and one Wrexham player knows all about that momentum.

MORE WREXHAM STORIES

Elliot Lee makes Wrexham comparison

Midfielder Elliot Lee joined Wrexham in 2022, completing a move from Luton Town.

Lee experienced a stunning rise with the Hatters, joining the club in 2017 when they were in League Two.

Lee scored 12 times to inspire promotion to League One, then repeated the trick a year later with promotion to the Championship.

The 29-year-old’s playing time reduced in the Championship and, after loan spells at Oxford United and Charlton Athletic, he found his way to Wrexham in 2022.

Lee is now doing it again; two promotions in a row after signing for the club and he sees parallels between Wrexham and Luton.

The Hatters are now in the Premier League and whilst that is a rather lofty goal for Wrexham at this stage, you can never say never.

Lee told The Athletic that something special can happen at Wrexham just as it has at Luton and the hard-working nature of everybody at the STōK Cae Ras reminds Lee of life at Kenilworth Road.

“Anything can happen,” said Lee. “Look at my old club Luton. When I left, I said I wanted a project similar to Luton. I wanted to go up the leagues and Wrexham fitted the bill. Of course, you can’t get ahead of yourself. And I’m not saying we will be in the Premier League any time soon. But I am saying we have all the foundations to be a successful club.”

“It has the potential to go all the way, thanks to the backing of the owners and the staff we have here. I’ve always said this place reminds me of Luton, in that it’s a great environment to work in every day and people come here to work hard “Special things can happen. I’ve said that since I came here and I know that because of what we had at Luton. Look at them now in the Premier League,” he added.

Luton a great template for Wrexham

Luton’s story is so incredible because we just don’t see it very often.

The Hatters relegated to non-league action in 2009 yet find themselves in the Premier League just 15 years later.

They went through money problems, relegations and non-league battles just like Wrexham, but really started accelerating when the right people took charge of the club.

That is how Wrexham fans feel now; confident that the right people are in charge and can take the club even further forward.

The Premier League is the dream and whilst it may be some way in the distance right now, there is belief that Wrexham could have more promotions to come in this ‘Hollywood’ era.
