Phil Foden has played with and against a lot of top-quality players during his time in Manchester City’s senior side.

At the age of 24, the Englishman has made 270 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side across all competitions.

Across those games, Foden has played against some of the biggest names in football such as Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo among others.

He’s also shared the dressing room with some of the most significant players in City’s recent history.

In fact, Foden has now made a claim about one of those players and another one of the top names he’s faced off against.

Phil Foden picks David Silva over Lionel Messi

In a recent video shared on the talkSPORT TikTok channel, Foden was taking part in a winner-stays-on challenge where he had to pick between certain midfielders from the past and present based on who he feels is better.

When asked to choose between Lionel Messi and David Silva, Foden picked his former City teammate.

Foden is a huge fan of Silva

City paid £24m (via BBC Sport) to sign Silva from Valencia during the 2010 summer transfer window.

During his decade at the Etihad Stadium, the midfielder made 436 appearances across all competitions, scoring 77 goals, delivering 140 assists and winning numerous domestic trophies in the process.

Back in February, the previous Premier League Player of the Season revealed that Silva is his footballing idol and someone he looked up to in the early stages of his career.

Bearing in mind how Messi is widely considered to be one of, if not the, best player of all time having won eight Ballon d’Or’s and a plethora of other titles and awards, the fact that Foden still picked Silva over him further highlights how much he idolises his former City mentor.
