Jamie Redknapp has now admitted his surprise at rumours coming from Liverpool.

The rumour mill at Anfield is currently rife with speculation, amid doubts over the futures of Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah on Merseyside – both will soon enter the final 12 months of their respective contracts.

There is also the expected arrival of Arne Slot as Jurgen Klopp‘s replacement – although that can only be classified as a rumour right now with neither Liverpool or Feyenoord giving official confirmation.

So, what has surprised Jamie Redknapp? Let’s take a look…

Jamie Redknapp surprised by Arne Slot rumours

Well, the 50-year-old actually spoke about Slot’s rumoured arrival at Liverpool on talkSPORT earlier on Tuesday, and admitted his shock at talk of the Dutchman replacing Klopp.

Among many others, Sky Sports are one outlet to state that the 45-year-old is expected to take over from the German this summer.

Speaking about Liverpool’s decision, Redknapp said on talkSPORT at 9:43am: “You could have given me 20 names, Arne Slot wouldn’t have been really on my radar as the next Liverpool manager. Looks like he is going to get it, so there will be an enormous amount of pressure.”

Dutchman is indeed under huge pressure, but Liverpool fans must trust Michael Edwards

Of course, some Liverpool fans may be feeling sceptical after seeing Erik ten Hag shine in the Netherlands with Ajax, only to then stink the Premier League out at Manchester United.

Slot has never actually managed outside of Dutch football, so Redknapp is spot on – the task of replacing a mammoth of the football management world in Klopp does carry a huge amount of pressure, to say the least.

Nevertheless, Michael Edwards has made many a bold decision at Liverpool before being proven right.

Liverpool’s CEO of Football famously convinced Klopp to ignore Julian Brandt and pursue Mohamed Salah instead, while few understood the £8m move to sign a relegated Andy Robertson back in 2017 before the Scotland international quickly became Europe’s best left-back.

Therefore, we would advise any Liverpool fans concerned about Slot to trust Edwards – he is arguably one of the smartest minds in modern football.
