Chris Sutton predicts who will win in FA Cup semi-final, Manchester United vs Coventry

Next for Manchester United, it’s FA Cup action against Coventry for a spot in the final, here’s what Chris Sutton has predicted.

For Erik ten Hag, the chances of surviving as Manchester United manager seem to get slimmer by the week with the performances being pretty awful.

Champions League qualification now looks out of reach and even sixth place is starting to look like a real challenge.

This leaves the FA Cup as the one opportunity for Palace to achieve some level of success this summer.

It’s yet to be seen if Ineos will see a cup win as a reason to keep Ten Hag, but it’s all he can do now having put himself in a precarious situation.

But ahead of the match, pundit Chris Sutton has given his prediction…

Chris Sutton predicts Manchester United vs Coventry

Sutton was doing his weekly predictions column for the BBC on Thursday and in doing so, has predicted United’s FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City.

MORE UNITED STORIES

The two sides will meet on Sunday so will already know who awaits them in the final by the time kick-off rolls around.

Here is what Sutton has said.

“United should be beating Coventry comfortably but they have lacked consistency all season and I don’t have faith in them to suddenly find it now.

“So, let me dream a little here. I’ve got great memories of the 1987 final when Keith Houchen’s diving header helped Coventry upset Tottenham and lift the FA Cup, and what a day it would be for them if they win.”

He then named the scoreline he sees happening on Sunday.

It isn’t good news for United with Sutton predicting a massive upset in the cup with Coventry winning 2-1 in his books.

Sutton says a Coventry win is ‘written in the stars’

This wasn’t all Sutton said though, as he also wrote that he thinks Coventry winning is written in the stars. He explained why.

Coventry are not in the greatest form in the Championship, with three defeats in their past four games, but I am a romantic at heart and I believe in fairytales too.

“It is written in the stars that Sky Blues boss Mark Robins wins this tie, against his former club.

“My old Norwich team-mate famously scored an FA Cup third-round winner for Manchester United in 1990 that saved Sir Alex Ferguson‘s job, but now I think he will push Erik ten Hag closer to the exit door.”
