Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke take to social media after Chelsea penalty spat with Cole Palmer

Mauricio Pochettino says he is "so upset" with the Chelsea players for arguing over the taking of the spot kick with the team cruising in the win over Everton.

Cole Palmer rightly grabbed the headlines after his incredible four-goal haul in Chelsea’s 6-0 win over Everton on Monday.

He netted the perfect hat-trick inside 29 minutes having scored goals with his left foot, head and right foot as the hosts went into the break 4-0 up following a classy Nicolas Jackson finish. Perhaps it is Palmer’s fourth goal that has got tongues wagging the most, though.

Noni Madueke won his second penalty in three Premier League games just after the hour mark and Palmer stepped up. With the team holding an unassailable lead, Madueke tried to take the ball off Palmer before Jackson came thundering in to add to the pushing.

Palmer tucked the penalty away but Mauricio Pochettino laid out his disappointment after full-time, a few minutes after Alfie Gilchrist netted his maiden goal for the club on 90 minutes. He held a debrief in the dressing room about the incident before speaking to the media, saying: “All that happened after is a shame. I am so, so upset about this situation.”

Palmer nevertheless described the night as “perfect” on social media with Jackson - now on 13 goals for the season - reposting his goal to Instagram.

Madueke perhaps sent a subtle message about what happened amidst the penalty incident. He simply published a blue loveheart post with a photo of the team in a huddle, with arms around one another. It was the first time he had started consecutive league games all season.

Meanwhile, Thiago Silva congratulated Gilchrist on his first senior goal, writing on his story: “First pro goal. Congrats @alfie.gilchrist!” with the youngster reposting it to his own account story. Silva also posted a photo on his main feed, stating: “Magical night at the Bridge. See you on Saturday!”

Raheem Sterling missed the game through illness but was quick to send a two-word message to Palmer, writing: “too cold”, with an icy-face emoji. Elsewhere, Marc Cucurella simply wrote: “Solid win” alongside a photo of him shaking the hand of Palmer with his head bowed, to which the goalscorer replied: "Brother [blue loveheart emoji]."
