David Prutton reckons one Leeds United player has got so much better since the club were relegated from the Premier League after failing to live up to the “billing”.
Leeds were a mess by the time they were relegated from the Premier League under Sam Allardyce. Some were desperate to get out of the club and Victor Orta’s relegation loan clause allowed them to do that.
The Yorkshire club conceded more goals than any other Premier League side in 2022-23. So much needed to be done but actually as time goes on, relegation has allowed some young players to flourish at Elland Road.
One of those is Crysencio Summerville. A fringe player last season despite moments of magic under Jesse Marsch, he has since become a crucial player for manager Daniel Farke following the drop in division.
The Championship‘s Player of the Season, Summerville clocked up 30 goals and assists with his brace and assist for Willy Gnonto’s goal on Monday. He is the first Leeds man to get that tally since Chris Wood in 2016/17.
Former Leeds midfielder David Prutton picked his Championship Team of the Year on Sky Sports and he included Summerville alongside Joe Rodon and Georginio Rutter.
And the pundit thinks relegation has actually helped Summerville develop as a player.

Prutton said: “A player that plays football that I can only have dreamt of.
“A player that flashed moments of brilliance in the top division, didn’t live up to the billing, stuck around and done his job and then some.
“He plays in a way that brings joy to everyone unless you’re the opposition. The trademark cutting in to the right, bending it in has been a real highlight of this year’s Championship,” he added on Sky Sports.
Summerville has been genuinely sensational this season. A game changer and without his goals and assists, Leeds would be nowhere near promotion to the Premier League with the Whites in the top two.
Joining the club back in 2020, Summerville was a teenage talent with plenty of raw quality but an attitude that needed work. Patrick Bamford said Summerville’s ability impressed him from the first training session.
Bamford said that it was his mentality and attitude off the pitch that required work. So it’s no coincidence that one of his old coaches Gaston Taument has said Summerville was “lazy” in training at Feyenoord.
Whatever Farke is doing with Summerville now though is getting the best out of him. His attitude seems spot on even if he did put himself ahead of Joel Piroe to take a penalty against Hull in a recent 3-1 win.
