Tottenham Hotspur missed out on signing Vitor Roque but may not have given up hope of landing the Barcelona wonderkid just yet.

Tottenham have shown a real desire to bring in young players in recent times.

Pape Matar Sarr and Destiny Udogie were signed as talents for the future and both have made Premier League impacts this season.

Micky van de Ven and Brennan Johnson arrived last summer and have shown real potential whilst Radu Dragusin arrived in January.

Lucas Bergvall is even younger and will arrive from Djurgarden whilst there is excitement over talents like Ashley Phillips and Luka Vuskovic.

Ange Postecoglou will be hoping to unlock the potential of these young talents and this approach may continue in the summer.

Tottenham have been linked with prospects such as George Ilenikhena and Thomas Waddingham, but an even higher-profile talent is on the radar too.

Tottenham want Vitor Roque again

Spurs supporters may remember claims emerging about the club’s pursuit of Brazilian wonderkid Vitor Roque.

The striker showed enormous potential with Athletico Paranaense and racked up 28 goals in 81 games as a teenager.

Barcelona won the race for Roque but agent Andre Cury claimed last summer that Tottenham not only made a move for the striker, but that it was ‘much bigger’ than Barca’s offer.

Roque chose a dream move to Barcelona but the switch hasn’t quite gone to plan yet.

Roque has started just two La Liga games this season, coming off the bench nine times whilst scoring two goals.

First-team chances have been difficult to come by and Roque could now seek to leave the La Liga side this summer.

AS now claim that Tottenham are back in for Roque once again, claiming that Spurs have ‘knocked on the striker’s door’.

Napoli, Chelsea and Manchester United are also believed to be interested in Roque, with AS suggesting that the situation is ‘about to become a volcano ready to explode’.

Barcelona would be open to a loan move but Roque could chase a permanent exit if he doesn’t receive assurances over his future.

What has been said about Vitor Roque?

The Brazilian has the potential to become a star in the coming years and Tottenham would seemingly love to finally land his services.

The move to Barcelona has started slowly but there has been huge praise for Roque in recent times; here are some of the best quotes about him.

“He is a special player, a big player. He is able to finish with both feet and possesses strength and technical ability,” – Former Porto star Diego Ribas.

“I think Vitor gives us a lot of rhythm, he has a goal, he is going to contribute a lot to us. He constantly throws off the markers and that is essential for midfielders,” – Barcelona midfielder Pedri.

“He makes a run, the cross comes in, he anticipates it and finishes at the near post. I thought, ‘Wow, this kid has an extra gear’. He’s really fast — a force. Beyond his technical skill, he has the physical attributes of a senior player. It’s impressive,” – former Brazil boss Tite.
