With its Europa League hopes dashed, Liverpool can only turn its attention toward the Premier League for the remainder of the season.
Thursday’s 1-0 win over Atalanta wasn’t enough for the Reds to overturn the deficit in their quarter-final, with the damage having already been done after a 3-0 defeat in the first leg at Anfield. It means there are now just six games remaining this season, and only one more trophy to target.
Of course, it also means that Jürgen Klopp’s time as manager is rapidly nearing an end. In fact, a month from now will mark the German’s final game in charge.
Thoughts therefore are turning toward the summer, and life after Klopp. Rúben Amorim remains the favorite to succeed him, while the Reds are also being linked with a host of potential transfers for Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes to cast their eyes over.
Manchester City though, as usual, could pose a threat to any transfer business, with Pep Guardiola’s side said to be leading Liverpool in the race for a Bayern Munich star. Here, Liverpool.com takes a scan around the Premier League and across the continent to see what's going on at Liverpool's rivals.
Manchester City is ‘planning a big push’ to sign Jamal Musiala in the summer, according to The Guardian. The Bayern Munich midfielder is said to have emerged as a top target as Pep Guardiola looks for more options in attacking midfield.
Musiala has two years left on his contract at Bayern, and the Bundesliga giant does not want to lose the 21-year-old. City though is claimed to be at the front of the queue, with its interest at an ‘advanced’ stage.
Liverpool home shirt 2023/2024
Liverpool's home shirt for the 2023/2024 campaign pays homage to Bill Shankly and the legendary Reds manager's final season in charge at Anfield. The Nike shirt features a bright red design with a bold white contrast on the colour and cuffs.
Prices start from £59.95
NikeLiverpool.com says: Liverpool might be one of those clubs in the queue for Musiala, with The Independent claiming recently the Reds are keen. Unfortunately, if City is leading it, it feels rather inevitable who will win the race.
Musiala looks like a top talent, and there will be plenty of clubs lining up for his services if he does want to leave Bayern. His decision may well come down to what sort of business is done at the Allianz Arena, and who replaces Thomas Tuchel as manager.
Manchester United’s FFP position has been boosted this week after Borussia Dortmund qualified for the Champions League semi-finals. According to the Manchester Evening News, the Bundesliga side’s progression triggered another payment as part of Jadon Sancho’s loan deal.
An upfront fee of $3.7m (£3m/€3.5m) was paid by Dortmund to take Sancho in January, with a further $4.3m (£3.4m/€4m) in potential add-ons. The report claims a ‘significant’ bonus has now been activated, with another payment due should Dortmund beat PSG in the semi-finals.
