Marco van Basten has heaped praise on one particular Manchester City player and labelled him as one of the greatest around.
In 373 combined appearances for AC Milan and Ajax, the striker scored 277 goals in total and won three Ballon d’Or’s as well as numerous domestic and European titles.
Now though, the Dutchman has shared his thoughts on one of City’s current players, who also knows what it takes to win big titles and individual awards.
Speaking in a recent interview with Ziggo Sport, Van Basten had this to say about Erling Haaland and what makes him such a valuable player for City on the pitch.
He said: “He is always present, he is always playable, and he can also do a lot with the ball. He is strong.
“You all play a bad match sometimes, but if there is one striker who is extremely dangerous, it is him. He is also a great.
“When you see how often he has scored and in all kinds of ways, because he can head well, shoot well, he can dribble, he is handy in small spaces and in large spaces. So, he is dangerous everywhere.”
After scoring 86 goals in 89 appearances for Borussia Dortmund, the striker joined City in the 2022 summer transfer window in a deal worth £51m.
Since then, the 23-year-old has found the back of the net 83 times in 91 games prior to tonight’s Champions League quarter-final home clash against Real Madrid.
After ending his record-breaking and Treble-winning debut season at City with 52 goals scored in 53 matches, Haaland was named as UEFA’s Best Player in Europe for 2023 and came second in the Ballon d’Or rankings.
Now that Van Basten, who certainly knows a thing or two when it comes to scoring goals on a regular basis, has shared what he admires about the City star, this should reiterate what a special striker he is, which we feel will be certified if he were to win a Ballon d’Or in the future.
