What a season Cole Palmer is having for Chelsea as he became the joint-leading goalscorer in the Premier League on Monday night.

Mauricio Pochettino has had many tricky nights at Stamford Bridge, but they managed to outclass Everton 6-0 and boost their chances of a European finish in the Premier League.

Once again, the star of the show for Chelsea was Cole Palmer who helped himself to an incredible four goals.

The former Manchester City star is now level with Erling Haaland for the Premier League’s Golden Boot award.

But Michael Owen feels Palmer overshadowed Nicolas Jackson during the game against Everton, as he told Premier League Productions (15/04/24 at 9:00 pm).

The £32 million signing has divided opinion following his summer transfer from Villarreal.

But that was his tenth Premier League strike of the campaign and Owen thinks it was an ‘underrated’ finish from the hitman.

Of course, all the talk after the match was about that penalty incident, which left Pochettino fuming, and Palmer’s four goals.

And it all meant that Jackon’s well-taken goal in the first half wasn’t spoken about much because it was another positive sign for the player going forward.

“That’s seriously good,” said Owen about Jackson’s finish. “I think that’s underrated.

“People watching that and not think it’s a great goal, but it’s really, really difficult. Controlling with one leg and spinning all in one movement, then hit it with the right foot. 

“If Cole Palmer hadn’t stolen the headlines and we hadn’t been waxed-lyrical about that. Honestly, he has been put in his place by a sublime performance from Palmer.”

A big, big game for Chelsea. There is more pressure on Pochettino here than anyone else.

Yes, Man City are favourites, but there is only one team that needs that win here, or else, more questions will start to be asked.

From the billion pounds spent, the manager in the dugout, the ownership and the players themselves, who were beaten in the League Cup final by Liverpool only months before, they all have a lot to prove.

The one massive positive is that the London club have drawn both fixtures against the Treble winners this season.

Plus, they have one of the best players in the Premier League at their disposal, so this FA Cup semi-final might not go the way everyone thinks.
