Jamie Vardy has spoken about his future as the end of his Leicester City contract nears.

The striker’s deal with the Foxes ends this summer and, so far, no official talks have been held over extending his stay at the King Power Stadium.

With City having already sealed promotion back to the Premier League, they could clinch the Championship title against Preston tonight. Speaking ahead of kick-off at Deepdale, Vardy was asked if he wanted another crack at the Premier League and he said: “I’m not ready to hang the boots up yet, the legs feel fine. I feel as fit as I ever have, so we’ll just see what happens.

“But there’s two games to go so I’m just fully focused on that now.”

Vardy’s goals and his age will be at the heart of the decision over a new contract, manager Enzo Maresca has indicated. The striker turns 38 next January, but equally he’s been City’s top scorer this season.

“I’ve said this many times about Jamie: there’s no doubt in terms of the way he scores goals,” Maresca said last Friday, before City's promotion was confirmed. “Probably the only doubt you can have with Jamie is about the age. He’s 37. But he’s showing he’s fit enough to compete.

“The problem with Jamie is that he plays and then he needs three or four days off. In terms of the training sessions, he’s not doing too much. But he’s doing the most important thing in football, he’s scoring goals.

“I knew that Jamie scored goals. He has always scored goals in his life. Until he stops, he will score goals. I’m not surprised with the amount of goals he’s scored with us.

“We are all happy about Jamie. At this moment, it’s just about trying to finish the season well. At the moment everything is decided, then we can take a decision. The focus is to play well, try to get promoted and then we can sit down with all of the guys who are out of contract.”
