Who is leaving Liverpool? Six coaches following Jürgen Klopp out as another exit emerges

Liverpool is not just losing Jürgen Klopp in the summer. A whole host of coaches will be on their way, with head of fitness Andreas Kornmayer the latest name.

Long-serving members of Liverpool's coaching staff will depart along with Jürgen Klopp this summer.

Liverpool is throwing the boot room out of the window this summer. The club's old concept of promoting from within has collapsed under the weight of Anfield departures.

It had previously been suggested that Pep Lijnders might be among the candidates to replace Jürgen Klopp. While this would have been a big risk — the Dutchman's only managerial experience to date ended after a matter of months — there would have been parallels to when Bob Paisley took over from Bill Shankly.

Given how successful Liverpool has been over the Klopp era, there is something to be said for maintaining that expertise at the club. But whether by design or not, there's going to be a very clean break, with an exodus of backroom staff taking place.

The latest name to emerge (via This is Anfield) is Andreas Kornmayer, Liverpool's head of fitness and conditioning and a long-time Klopp ally. The 49-year-old arrived in his compatriot's first summer at the club, and has caused one or two double-takes over the years with his physical resemblance to the manager.

Obviously, Liverpool was never going to replace Klopp with Kornmayer — although it might have got away with it without anyone noticing! But what this does mean is that the new head coach, likely to be Arne Slot, has yet another vacancy to fill.

Slot will bring certain staff members with him from Feyenoord, but it remains to be seen whether he appoints all of the key positions around him, or whether Michael Edwards and incoming sporting director Richard Hughes take the reins. Either way, it will be a busy few weeks for somebody.

Along with Lijnders and Kornmayer, Liverpool will say goodbye to assistant manager Peter Kraweitz (a veteran of the entire Klopp era, having followed him from Mainz and Dortmund), goalkeeping coach John Achterberg (at the club since 2009) and elite development coach Vitor Matos (effectively the link between the academy and the first team). It's also thought that Andreas Schlumberger, head of recovery and performance, will be on his way out.

Liverpool.com says: There's no escaping the fact that this is a lot of talent leaving the club in one go. All the departing coaches have served the club well in their own ways.

In fairness, the boot room concept has been kept alive in the boardroom. Michael Edwards has returned to FSG, and has already overseen another re-appointment by bringing former loans manager David Woodfine back into the fold, this time as assistant sporting director.

But the process of replacing the coaching staff needs to begin soon. Once it's confirmed who Slot will bring with him, Liverpool can set about working out the gaps that still need to be filled.
