Reschke reveals: This is why Zidane is not an option for Bayern

Zinedine Zidane, who has been without a club for three years, was recently rumoured to be a coaching candidate at FC Bayern. A former top Munich official is sceptical and names a decisive flaw.

Zinedine Zidane – that really would be a big name on the FC Bayern coaching bench. Three-time Champions League winner with Real Madrid, world and European champion as a player.

Recently, there have been rumours again that the French international star is on the list of possible successors to Thomas Tuchel. However, these rumours were quickly answered with a counter-argument: Zidane speaks French as well as Spanish and Italian very well. But the 51-year-old struggles with English.

For a former Bayern boss, this is an exclusion criterion: „We don’t even need to talk about Zidane’s qualities. But the fact is, of course, that language is a very important tool for leading the team and communicating tactical content in order to be able to immerse yourself in dialogue with the players in day-to-day business,“ said Michael Reschke in an interview with ran.

This is „problematic, because everything in communication then goes through an interpreter. Especially in such a sensitive organisation as FC Bayern Munich, I find that difficult,“ continued Reschke, who held the position of Technical Director from 2014 to 2017.

He emphasised that he had no doubts about Zidane’s expertise: „As I said, it’s not about the individual quality of the coach, but more about a level of communication that is suboptimal.“

Eberl gives a telling answer about Zidane

As things stand at the moment, Zidane will not be taking over as FCB coach anyway. Mundo Deportivo has already reported that an agreement with Zidane is „practically finalised“. However, this could not be confirmed by any German media.

In fact, there have been no talks between FCB and Zidane. At least, sports director Max Eberl said in the Sky interview when asked about the language issue: „I don’t know if Zidane speaks English.“

For Unai Emery, on the other hand, English is not an obstacle. Like Ralf Rangnick, the Aston Villa coach is rated much higher than Zidane.
