Newcastle are now trying to sign ‘unplayable’ 18-year-old who is just like Bukayo Saka

Eddie Howe has stated that Newcastle United need to sign players before they truly reach their potential, and that is exactly what they are trying to do this summer.

While established names like Lloyd Kelly, Tosin Adarabioyo and Morgan Gibbs-White are being linked with moves to Newcastle United, the club are also looking at much younger prospects who could go on to have a huge impact in black and white.

That is a more cost effective way for Newcastle United to do business, as it means they are not paying a premium price for ready-made stars. As Eddie Howe says, smart recruitment will be the difference between success and failure, as long as the club is financially hamstrung by profit and sustainability rules.

Newcastle United need a new right winger

One position that Newcastle United need to address this summer is right wing, as the club searches for someone who can compliment Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon in attack.

That is where most of the Magpies’ resources should go, and in a perfect world they would use PIF’s wealth to buy the best in class.

One candidate would be Bukayo Saka, who has developed into a superstar since coming through the Arsenal academy. He is now an established Premier League and England player, and has scored 20 goals and provided 14 assists this season. That is more goal contributions than Gordon, who has got 22 in total.

However, there is no way that Newcastle can afford to sign player Saka. But they might be able to get the next best thing.

Newcastle interested in Arsenal’s Amario Cozier-Duberry

That is because Newcastle are actually interested in signing another player from Arsenal.

According to iNews, the Magpies are trying to do a deal for Gunners teenager Amario Cozier-Duberry.

He was linked with Newcastle United back in January, and it appears that Eddie Howe’s side are continuing to target the exciting youngster.

The 18-year-old’s Arsenal contract expires this summer, meaning Newcastle United have the chance to do a bargain deal. However, the North London club are still trying to retain the winger, with iNews adding that Arsenal hope that Cozier-Duberry will sign a new deal to remain at the Emirates Stadium.

Cozier-Duberry compared to Bukayo Saka

And it is easy to understand why Arsenal are eager to keep Cozier-Duberry, as they believe he is very similar to Saka.

Jack Wilshere is currently the head coach for Arsenal’s Under-18s, and spoke incredibly highly about Cozier-Duberry during an interview with the Athletic back in April 2023.

“Amario is very exciting and Mikel [Arteta] likes him,” he said.

“He reminds me of Bukayo Saka, plays in the same position as him, needs to get better with his decision-making like Bukayo did, but he’s definitely exciting.

“In some moments he’s unplayable. You give him the ball and he can make things happen.”

Cozier-Duberry has certainly made things happen at youth level for Arsenal this season, and his numbers prove that. The winger has scored 13 goals and provided five assists, and is clearly a very exciting talent.

And he is a talent who Newcastle United are trying to poach from Arsenal. While they target expensive stars such as Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak, Newcastle could nab a star of the future.
