Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Luka Modric has now been speaking about his time in north London.

Under Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham are looking to land themselves a spot back in the top four to qualify for the Champions League.

The Lilywhites have not played any European football this season but still find themselves trailing in the race for fourth.

Some seriously tough games are coming up for Tottenham over the coming weeks which will determine what level of European competition they will be playing in.

One player who certainly knows all about playing in the Champions League is the former Tottenham midfielder, Luka Modric, who has lifted the trophy five times.

Unfortunately, he did not get his hands on the prize as a Spurs player but did so during his stunning career with Real Madrid.

A lot has changed at Tottenham since Modric departed with the opening of Hotspur Way and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

But the Croatian has been looking back on his time with the Lilywhites as his time at Real Madrid looks set to come to an end this summer.

Luka Modric shares what he thinks of Tottenham having left in 2012

After spending four years in north London, Modric made the move to the Santiago Bernabeu for a fee in the region of £30m.

The Croatian’s move to Spurs was the midfielder’s first taste of elite European football having joined from Dinamo Zagreb back in 2008.

Under Harry Redknapp, Modric helped Spurs to become the first side in the club’s history to qualify for the Champions League.

In that Champions League campaign, Modric played in eight of Tottenham’s 10 games where he found the back of the net once and provided one assist.

Here is a brief roundup of Modric’s time at Spurs.

Modric has spent the remainder of his career at Madrid but he looks set to become a free agent this summer at the age of 38.

And speaking to Optus Sport, the Croatian has now been looking back on his time with the Lilywhites and even said he still follows the club.

“Coming to Tottenham was the right decision. If I could have written the script for how my career would develop, I couldn’t have written it better than how everything has turned out,” he said.

“When you leave the Premier League, you don’t just stop following it. So, I follow the league, especially the teams with Croatian players. And, of course, I still follow Tottenham.”

Ledley King says Luka Modric used to dominate Steven Gerrard at Anfield

Modric has now established himself as one of the best midfielders to have ever played the game.

The Croatian has achieved everything there is to be won in the Spanish game and has had a dazzling international career.

What awaits the midfielder is yet to be seen, but Ledley King has admitted he was amazed by what he saw from Modric during their time together.

“When we brought him inside [from left midfield], we saw just how good Luka was. I think we thought he was a number 10 as well, but he was someone who liked to play deep and wanted to play and get the ball off the back foot and dictate things from there,” he said.

“So, Luka, I’ve seen Luka go to Anfield and play against Stevie [Gerrard] and you know how good Stevie is… and I’ve seen Luka dominate.”
