Aston Villa are leading the charge to sign one of Europe’s premier marksmen this summer ahead of Manchester United and others.

Villa are ready to back Unai Emery once again and if he achieves Champions League football, Villa fans can expect an influx of new signings once more.

This season has been a huge success for Villa under Emery and up top, Ollie Watkins has continued to shine by smashing in the goals.

However, going into another European campaign and possibly the Champions League, Emery will want more options and according to reports, his search could lead him to France.

And the man in question? Lille striker, Jonathan David.

According to a report from Tuttomercatoweb, Aston Villa are very much in the mix to sign David along with a selection of other clubs.

Among them are Manchester United. However, it’s claimed Villa are ahead of Erik ten Hag’s side as things stand.

It’s claimed in the report that Villa are the ones on pole position and in the end, Lille may only demand around £30m to consider selling the Canadian.

David only has a year left on his current deal and with no new sign of a contract, Lille could well cash in.

The striker has rattled in another 24 goals this season to continue his impressive form on the continent.

Jonathan David is quicker than Gabriel Jesus

We all know Unai Emery loves a pacey frontman in his team.

Ollie Watkins can motor, while Leon Bailey is rapid and the likes of Morgan Rogers and Johan Duran are no slouches either.

However, Jonathan David is a player with pace to burn.

According to The Speeds Database, David is quicker than a whole host of players across Europe, including Arsenal star, Gabriel Jesus.

The forward is a wanted man though and Tottenham are believed to have considered making their move for him as well.

And at just £30m, he could well be one of the bargains of the summer market.
