Mauricio Pochettino reveals strict punishment players will face if they challenge Cole Palmer for penalties

Mauricio Pochettino has now set the rules for who is the club’s penalty taker after a misunderstanding between players.

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino admitted he was upset with the way Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke behaved late on in the win against Everton. The two forwards tried to take the ball from the club’s designated penalty taker Cole Palmer.

Palmer has scored nine of the nine penalties he’s taken this season, becoming the first Chelsea player in the last decade to not miss in his first nine attempts. He has now scored 20 league goals, the same as Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.

Asked what he thought of the situation between Jackson and Madueke which marred a dominant display. The Chelsea boss told reporters after the game at Stamford Bridge: “Yes, I think after we need to talk about the game but first of all I am going to tell you, to make clear; the players know, the staff know, the club know that the penalty taker is Cole Palmer. All that happened after is a shame. I am so, so upset about this situation.

"We were talking in the dressing room about the image that we send because it's Monday Night Football – every single country they were watching the game and we cannot send this type of image. It's a shame. I want to apologise to the people and our fans because that is unacceptable.

"But I am not going to accept again this type of behaviour. I am going to be very strong if something like this happens again. I was telling them and I promise this is not going to happen again. It is the type of process that we need to learn when we have a young squad that sometimes the personal aims are in front of the collective. If it happens again they are out.”

Chelsea is back in the hunt for Europe

This was the perfect performance for the Blues who scored six times with Palmer scoring a hat trick plus one goal. Nicolas Jackson also bagged a brilliant goal in a round-dominant display.

The win keeps them ninth on the league table but just three off sixth-placed Newcastle United with a game in hand.

They will not turn their attention to this weekend’s FA Cup game against Manchester City as they look to reach the final of the Cup competition.
