Crystal Palace enjoyed a successful weekend all around, as Crystal Palace Women were promoted to the Barclays Women’s Super League on Sunday, seeing a familiar face celebrate the achievements of the promoted side.

For the first time in their history, Crystal Palace Women will play in the top flight of English football next season after securing promotion from the Women’s Championship on Sunday.

The Eagles’ 0-0 draw with Sunderland saw their promotion confirmed as they were crowned champions, winning the second tier for the first time.

It was an incredible turnaround after finishing 5th last season, in what is poised to be an emphatic 2024/25 campaign for Laura Kaminski’s side, who were congratulated for their achievements yesterday.

Taking to Twitter to congratulate the Eagles was Wilfried Zaha, whose acknowledgement of their promotion will mean a lot to Crystal Palace Women, who arguably wouldn’t be in such a glorious position if it wasn’t for the winger’s past actions.

Back in 2018, the former Palace hero donated a substantial financial contribution to support the development of the club’s amateur women’s players at the time.

The donation came at a critical time for the club, with their journey a truly remarkable one from then to their outstanding achievement of promotion yesterday.

Crystal Palace co-owner Steve Parish also commented on the success of Kaminski’s side, relaying that he is ‘so incredibly proud’ of the team, congratulating the manager and squad for their achievement.

“So incredibly proud and pleased for Crystal Palace Women this is such an incredible achievement.

“Huge Congrats to the incredible manager Laura Kaminski her staff, to Grace Williams for her leadership and of course this special group of players.

It’s a significant achievement for Crystal Palace as a club to see the women’s team take such a leap in their progression under Kaminski.

Next season, the Eagles will play in the Barclays Women’s Super League, which Sky Sports will broadcast over the 2024/25 campaign, who have agreed to show up to 44 fixtures.

From the lows of financial pressures back in 2018, which saw reserve players told they could not represent the club if they could not raise £250 each in sponsorship, to the highs of playing in one of the top Women’s leagues in the world, it’s a time to celebrate Crystal Palace Women’s achievements.
