Saturday proved to be a pretty productive day for Newcastle United.

Again, Eddie Howe’s side started reasonably poorly at Burnley but eventually ran out 4-1 winners to move up to sixth in the Premier League, albeit perhaps only on a temporary basis.

Still, results are not the most important thing in the world at the moment.

Indeed, the run-in to the season when a team is chasing something requires cold, hard results more than anything else.

Luckily, Howe is getting some key players back.

Callum Wilson is back in the goals for Newcastle having recently returned from injury himself, while it was fantastic to see Joelinton on the pitch again.

The Brazilian has been missing since January after thigh surgery and appeared off the bench for the first time since signing a long-term new contract with the club.

Joelinton, as ever, was one of the more industrious Newcastle players on Saturday and showed little sign of ring rust.

After the game, he was delighted for teammate Bruno Guimaraes.

Guimaraes, as he often does, took to Instagram after the game to caption a collage of images of himself in action: “Very good afternoon with a big win and one more goal!! Very very happy, howay the lads. Nice to have you back Joelinton bro.”

In response, Joelinton wrote: “I love you brother.”

Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes could only have a few Newcastle games left with each other

Clearly, tying Joelinton down to a new deal is brilliant news for Newcastle.

Still, the situation surrounding Guimaraes is slightly more complicated.

While there is hope at the club that they will be able to keep their star midfielder, the fact he has a release clause in his contract obviously weakens their position.

Nobody will want to even briefly think about losing Guimaraes but perhaps we should try and enjoy his midfield partnership with Joelinton as much as we can…
