Saif Rubie found not guilty of sending threatening email to former Chelsea boss Marina Granovskaia in relation to fee he claimed was owed following Kurt Zouma's transfer to West Ham United
Football agent Saif Rubie has been found not guilty of sending a threatening email to former Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia.
Rubie, 45, learnt of the verdict at Southwark Crown Court on Monday after he was tried under the malicious communications act.
Granovskaia last week told the court that she felt "physically threatened" by the email sent to her by Rubie in relation to the structure of the transfer fee for defender Kurt Zouma when he left Stamford Bridge for West Ham United.
But Rubie denied the charge and a jury has cleared him following a week-long trial. He broke down in tears upon learning of the decision.
Rubie had told the court: “I’m sending an email to a woman who is the right hand of Roman Abramovich, one of the biggest Russian businessmen in the world. I’m only Saif Rubie…I’m a small agent.
“I don’t think I would be stupid enough to be threatening anybody let alone somebody with the might of Roman Abramovich [behind them]. That would just be me on a suicide mission. I’m not that stupid.”
