Arsenal offer Jorginho new contract with the Italian midfielder expected to sign in huge boost for Mikel Arteta

Sporting director Edu is leading the charge to add world class additions to the side for next season

ARSENAL have finally offered Jorginho fresh terms to keep him at the club.

The Gunners midfielder was signed from Chelsea in January 2023 for £12m on an 18-month deal with the option of a further year.

However, such is Mikel Arteta’s admiration for the 32-year-old, the North Londoners have produced a new offer to secure his future at the Emirates.

Jorginho, who has been in talks over extending his time at Arsenal for months, is expected to sign on having loved his time at the club so far.

Arteta views Jorginho as a leader on and off the pitch, and has played a crucial part in the starting XI this term with teammate Thomas Partey out injured for five months.

Jorginho has started 23 times in the Premier League this campaign, and also played a pivotal role in their title charge last season.

Partey’s future is less clear. The Ghanaian, 30 – who joined the club in October 2020 from Atletico Madrid for £45m – is entering the final 12 months of his contract and has been linked with a move away.

Arteta is considering his options given Partey’s recent injury record at Arsenal and whether he could fetch a reasonable fee to add to his summer transfer kitty.

Partey has been linked with Serie A side Juventus and numerous clubs in the Saudi Pro League.

Meanwhile, it is understood Arsenal sporting director Edu and assistant Jason Ayto visited Saudi Arabia last week on a “meet-and-greet trip” with the country’s football personnel.

Edu and his negotiators are already deep into their planning for this summer’s transfer window, targeting a world class striker, a midfielder and extra cover at the back.

The club are expected to back Arteta with similar funds to last season, having landed the likes of Declan Rice, David Raya, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber for just over £200m.
