Exclusive: What Chelsea now plan to do with Nicolas Jackson next season

Nicolas Jackson has been Chelsea’s first-choice striker this season following his arrival from Villarreal last summer.

However, there are doubts about whether Nicolas Jackson will be able to continue leading the line for Chelsea.

The 22-year-old had a game to forget in his side’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-finals over the weekend, missing plenty of good opportunities.

Rangers legend and talkSPORT pundit Ally McCoist is one man who does not think Jackson can be trusted to be the Blues’ main centre-forward next term.

In total, Jackson has made 37 appearances in the current campaign and scored 13 goals.

Chelsea’s plans for Nicolas Jackson

Chelsea continue to be linked with several strikers ahead of the summer transfer window, including Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, and it looks like one arriving could have ramifications for Jackson.

HITC insider Graeme Bailey recently spoke to The Chelsea Chronicle about the Senegal international and what is expected to happen with him if the club land someone like Osimhen.

He said: “[Romelu] Lukaku, I don’t see him coming back with Jackson being there as he is, who’s going to be the bonafide No.2 to that first-choice No.9 who they do want.

“Osimhen is still the one they desire, the one they want. Obviously we’ve reported recently that PSG seem confident about getting Osimhen, so he will be going to one of the two.”

Who will Chelsea’s two main strikers be next season?

Jackson could be about to lose his spot in the Chelsea team, but it is unlikely that the former Villarreal star will depart Stamford Bridge in the next transfer window.

He only joined the club last summer and has a contract until 2031.

As for the other No.9 in Chelsea’s squad, it could be Osimhen, though it looks like the Blues will have to beat PSG to his signature.

Osimhen is said to have a €130m (£111.9m) release clause in his contract, so Chelsea may possibly have to make the Nigerian the second most expensive signing in the club’s history to land him this summer.
