The Premier League’s 20 sides have been ranked by their wage bills, amid reports a salary cap is set to be introduced.

According to The Times, Premier League clubs have reached an agreement in principle for a spending cap known as “anchoring”, which would limit spending to a multiple of the lowest club's broadcast revenue.

As per the alleged cap, if the bottom club in the division earned £100 million, clubs could only spend £500 million on wages and fees that season.

The Times added that Manchester City, Manchester United and Aston Villa all voted against the proposal while Chelsea abstained.

Moreover, upon the news, the PFA released a strongly worded statement which read: "We’ll wait to see details of proposals but we would oppose any measure that would place a ‘hard’ cap on player wages. There is an established process in place to ensure proposals like this, which would directly impact our members, have to be properly consulted on.”

As news broke of a prospective spending cap, SPORTbible decided to rank the Premier League sides by their wage bills, with help from capology.

Unsurprisingly, given they were among those to abstain, United have the highest gross combined wage bill in the league, at £3,821,000 per week.

City are second on the list, with a gross combined wage bill of £3,705,000 per week, while Arsenal are third, paying their players £3,298,000 per week.

Chelsea (£2,978,000) and Liverpool (£2,670,000) complete the top five.
