Merino signs, Nketiah sold, Coman decision - Dream Arsenal transfer window before Wolves

Latest Arsenal transfer news with Mikel Arteta and Edu hoping to make some huge decisions on three summer deals before Wolves

Mikel Merino of Real Sociedad celebrates the victory over Celta Vigo
Mikel Merino could finally join Arsenal from Real Sociedad this week

In just four days, Arsenal kick off their 2024/25 Premier League campaign with the visit of Wolves to Emirates Stadium. Having pushed Manchester City to the absolute limit for the title in the last two seasons, Mikel Arteta and his players will be out to finally claim some domestic silverware.

Strengthening in the summer transfer window will certainly help the Gunners maintain their push towards winning their first league title in two decades. David Raya, Tommy Setford and Riccardo Calafiori have all arrived on permanent deals with Emile Smith Rowe as a marquee departure.

Further incomings are still expected with Arsenal's pursuit of Mikel Merino ongoing, while links to a number of attackers such as Leroy Sane, Kingsley Coman and Simon Adingra have emerged. Though the new season is just over 72 hours from beginning, Arsenal have over two weeks to still seal transfers.

However, Arteta will be keen to wrap up some deals before the clash against Wolves in order to obtain a more settled squad. With that said, football.london has taken a look at two transfers that could be completed this week with a major decision made on a third deal.

Merino signs

Arsenal will hope to finally complete a deal for Merino this week, especially following a massive Real Sociedad decision being confirmed. Like Merino, Martin Zubimendi was also linked to an exit from Spain with Liverpool exploring a move, though he has decided to stay at Sociedad for the upcoming season.

With that in mind, an Arsenal boost to sign Merino is clear, and an agreement could soon be reached. As the 28-year-old's contract expires next summer, the Gunners are keen to agree a cut-price deal in the region of £25million, with Merino joining as Smith Rowe's replacement.

If Arteta can get the experienced midfielder through the door before his side take on Wolves, he could be available for the following week's clash against Aston Villa.

Nketiah sold to Bournemouth

Though his proposed move to Marseille fell apart, Nketiah departing north London remains a serious possibility. Having sold Dominic Solanke to Tottenham, Bournemouth have added Nketiah to their list of potential replacements, with initial talks having taken place.

The Cherries are also looking at Porto's Evanilson, though Nketiah's Premier League experience could prove valuable. With £55million acquired upfront for Solanke's exit, Bournemouth certainly have the funds to meet Arsenal's asking price.

Coman loan chance rejected

Bayern Munich are open to parting ways with Coman on a temporary basis, though Arsenal are better off looking elsewhere if they decide to strengthen in attack, the France international is an excellent winger, but his preference to play on the left will likely make it a deal that Arteta does not pursue.

There is also likely a clear reason such a major decision just days before the start of the season has been made, and the Gunners are not a club that jumps at just any opportunity. Arsenal are very meticulous when it comes to new signings, and with no significant past interest in Coman, it is unlikely that stance changes now.
